State Update: 

California Examines Unifying Definition of Independent Contractor
A bill being examined by the California State Assembly, AB 2373, is seeking to add a new Section 22 to the Corporations Code to define an Independent Contractor  using the criteria in Section 30 of the Labor Code. If passed, the bill would expand the definition and use 17 factors to determine worker status.

New Independent Contractor Law Approved in Louisiana
Louisiana has become the latest state to introduce new regulations pertaining to misclassifying workers as Independent Contractors. SB 472 imposes posting notices on employers that informs workers of their rights, including how to make complaints for possible misclassification. It also introduces financial penalties for misclassification.
